In a recent announcement, President Donald Trump shared on social media that following a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the U.S. has decided to significantly reduce the tariffs imposed on India. The reciprocal tariffs, which had previously been set at 25%, will now drop to 18%, marking a significant shift in trade relations between the two countries.

According to a White House official, the move will also include the removal of the additional 25% emergency tariff that was applied on top of the original reciprocal tariff. This decision follows a trade deal aimed at improving economic ties between the U.S. and India.

Trump’s social media post emphasized the diplomatic nature of the agreement, stating, “Out of friendship and respect for Prime Minister Modi and, as per his request, effective immediately, we agreed to a Trade Deal between the United States and India, whereby the United States will charge a reduced Reciprocal Tariff, lowering it from 25% to 18%. In return, India will reduce their Tariffs and Non-Tariff Barriers against the United States to ZERO.”

While the announcement has been made, the White House has yet to specify when an executive order will be signed to officially implement the tariff reductions.
